Some children in our community enter foster care with little notice and only what they can carry. They face instability, trauma, and uncertainty at an age when they should feel safe and supported.
Miles in Their Shoes is our opportunity to walk in solidarity and remind them they are not alone.
Proceeds benefit Kids In Need of McHenry County.
You have more power than you think. Take a step that matters.
Miles in Their Shoes is more than a walk. It is an interactive, meaningful experience designed to help our community step into solidarity with children facing crisis.
The morning begins with check in at Emricson Park, followed by a brief welcome and a silent lap to honor the stories of children who often go unheard. After the opening, participants are encouraged to walk at their own pace and complete as many loops as they would like. Each loop is approximately 1/3 of a mile.
Along the path, you will encounter thoughtful elements and symbolic stations that reflect the challenges many children carry. These moments are designed to invite reflection, conversation, and connection.
During the Walk You Can Expect:
A silent opening lap to begin the morning in unity
Interactive elements and symbolic obstacles placed along the route
Encouragement and affirmation signs throughout the path
A final solidarity lap walked together as a community
Lanyards, Pins, and Buttons
Each participant will receive a lanyard to wear during the walk. As you move through the course, you will have opportunities to collect inspirational pins and buttons.
Participants are encouraged to trade pins with one another, add them to their lanyards, and wear them proudly. It is a simple but powerful reminder that we are all connected and that small exchanges can create meaningful moments.
Whether you walk one loop or many, your presence matters. Every step makes an impact, and every pin collected represents a message of hope for a child who needs it most.
